The Benefits of Underfloor Heating
Underfloor heating provides a range of benefits over traditional systems using radiators:
- Low Maintence Costs: Polypropylene is a naturally tough material guaranteed for 50 years requiring little to no maintenance.
- Energy Efficiency: Underfloor heating is far more efficient than conventional radiators, which should result in reduced energy bills, particulary when working alongside normal house insulation measures.
- Comfort: Underfloor heating systems usually make homes noticeably more comfortable, due to the consistent temperature profile around the room.
- Children Friendly: The fact that it is underground means the heat source is out of harms way unlike a radiator, which can easily be accidentaly touched when hot.
- Air Source Heat Pumps: Under floor heating is the most efficient way to heat your project when using an ASHP.
How Underfloor Heating Works
In Winter it works by pumping a controlled flow of warm water from the heat source through plastic tubing embedded in the floor. The emitting floor surface area is large, which provides sufficient warmth even on the coldest of days.
In Summer chilled water from a ground source heat pump or an air source heat pump / chiller is passed through the pipes laid beneath the floor. This then reduces the radiant air temperature of the room.
